Hello Mamas,

I'm telling you there is something in the water down here in Mattapoisett, Massachusetts that seems to draw out talent! We have so many Mamaprenuers in our town we could just dedicate the entire blog to them. 

Today I would like to introduce you to one... Interior Decorator and mother of (four boys) Greta Fox.  Greta has opened her home to us and allowed us to show you her vision of Christmas in her new seaside home.  Mamas prepared to be wowed!!!!

Pendant Lights by Chic Home Antiques

" When decorating your home for the Holidays to create the biggest impact pick one favorite spot preferably high up like a mantle. Somewhere out of reach from curious little hands and don't be afraid to get creative. I like to use Mercury glass because it reflects the light from the tree as well as candles etc.  For tree placement I like to tell my clients to place it near a window because it reflects the light and creates a bigger impact at night." - Greta

As you can see in this picture below creativity is Greta's strong point! She had these bunk beds custom built for her boys and with the ceiling painted navy.... skies the limit!

Haunted Ghouls nights out! Part I

Who's up for a girls ghouls night out? Inspired by this (where you can find all directions and how-to's)

we decided to add some more haute touches..like

We've discussed home decor, here + here, but how about some other options? Haute and chic candles and oh so simple to make.  Print + download the template here , then wrap around glass hurricanes.  

I'm a sucker for pink and green.  Throw in glitter and it's all over.  Pink and green glittery skulls have brought a whole new dimension to my Hallween decor.  Available here

 

Offer up a variety of beverages, beer + wine, and maybe just one signature mixed cocktail like say.. a dark and spooky!  A ghoulish twist on the traditional dark + stormy...

You can't serve drinks without food, and cake is food right? Right?! How about the bat cake? 

Or some Ghouly chatter mouth apps... Kate, I thought these were Hilarious great for school parties... Apples, Peanut Butter and Marshmallows! Soo frightfully easy!!

Haute haunted home decorating, part two, Kate's home tour

Well when your neighbors home looks like this, you'd better step up to the plate.  Especially when you're in charge of the neighborhood trick or treat post pizza party! So welcome to my chic and spooky (I hope) home tour.  

I'm more of an unexpected decorator.  Pumpkins pop where they shouldn't. 

I love this feather wreath- I bought it at Home Goods and use it for Halloween.  At Christmas I deck it out in silver balls + the whole nine yards and at Valentines I tie a big pink bow on it.  The spooky sign is from the dollar store.

The witches brew cabinet.  Enter if you dare..or if it's 5 o'clock....again, hidden little dollar store/TJ Maxx finds

My kids love the skull-"Skully" he's been nicknamed and every year we place him somewhere really silly where people do a double take when they walk in.  

even the bathroom isn't spared....rats and spider webs.  Who fired the maid, clearly this kid can't reach that high!

Haute Haunted home decorating by Carol for Chic Home & Antiques

Living next door to a decorator can be tricky.  On one hand, you're home will never live up to theirs, so you're forced to constantly meet them at the front door, and halt them less they think they can enter your temple of chaos.  On the other hand, it's a constant home magazine tour when you visit them, and a wealth of decorating knowledge at your fingertips.   Meet my neighbor.   Carol's a part time decorator/furniture restorer and proprieter of the uber fab Chic Home Antiques.  She is constantly decorating, re-decorating, re-storing, you name it.  She is also the nicest neighbor out there so sometimes...I let her in.  We've bragged about Carol before but I had to share her Halloween decor because not only is it chic, it's unique.  Carol was kind enough to share her decorating tips + photos so that you too can attain a haute haunted home.  

 

 

                                            Chic Home for Halloween.  

Halloween is one of my favorite times of year to decorate. You can still use those spooky decorations but in a way that is chic and not verging on the way of tackiness.   First impressions always last a life time so I always start with the front door entryway.  Making it creeping and just spooky enough for the little ones to still enjoy.  Hanging glittery black skeleton heads on the front door and dead branches with dried leaves and green moss placed in my cement urns give my entrance way a haunted appeal.  As you step inside I always have old glass vases filled with red,black and orange food coloring and old branches painted black as night covered with spider webs.  The round table is draped in an old white cloth with skeleton heads and spiders creeping about.  As you climb the stairs inside from the entryway cockroaches are waiting on the stairs.   Little black mice are scattered throughout  the more the better, where there is one there are  always more. Taking an old silver candelabra  covering it with spider webs, spiders and drooping old candles give the affect of a haunted kitchen.   Halloween doesn't always have to be black and orange.  Mix it up use silver and black instead, use white pumpkins instead of your typical orange.  Use things from the outside like dead branches, green moss and bittersweet.  Most of all have fun and remain Chic!-

Hello Everyone Kimberly Here!!

Kate is right I have been up to my eye balls in back to school paper work and getting caught up on sketches, paintings, cleaning .... all the things that got pushed to the side this summer while the kiddo's were home. I have actually been a few minutes late picking my boys up thinking to myself... could I just have another hour!! 

I would like to share with you all a very funny and genius idea by my friend, interior designer Greta Fox. Greta just built a beautiful new home on the water here in Mattapoisett. I WILL be posting pictures as soon as she gets moved in and settled because Greta has four boys and this house has so many great ideas you will be inspired! Anyway, Greta asked me to paint inside her toilet a life ring to give her boys a target!!! LOL!!!! I of course was honored cause you know only the Hautest Artists get these requests!! LOL!!!

   

Now If Hurricane Earl was a girl we would most likely know where it was aiming at. Second we could probably stop her in her tracks for this Labor Day Sale at Tory Burch!!

OH I would paint 100 toilets for these boots!!! They are to die for!!!! 

Flannel Patterson Boot $ 495 ( additional 25%off this weekend) Great savings however, I know for some of us it is like losing a deck chair off the titanic!!! LOL!!! The upside is they are classic and you would get a few years out of them!! Can you see how my mind works!! hahaha!!

Oh Dear...... my children's school just called and there is half day tomorrow due to the hurricane!! To quote the Dixie Chicks..... that Earl has to die!!!

Reunited + it feels so homey

I've been feeling rather homey lately, having spent last weekend in my hometown attending my (cough cough) 20 year class reunion 

 

 

(honestly..why does your first 20 years drag by, yet the following 20?? Notsomuch.). 

Last night I had the pleasure of dining at one my favorite local seaside pubs with some of my favorite locals, where we discussed my friend's newest business-Chic Home Antiques and home design blogs. Having been known to spend days upon days an hour here or there, perusing the web for inspiration, I know a few fab blogs, and promised to share with her (and of course, haute mamas everywhere).  So sit back and get ready because what I am about to show you will most likely prompt you to run out and A. Paint a room B. Redecorate a room or C. just spend days upon days an hour here or there worshipping people who do things like that. So in light of my visit back to my first home.. 

-Urban Grace Real life interior decorator, new mom, twin sister (also a fab blogger), and sharer of all home things awesome. 

-Cote de Texas French design with a Southern twist? I'm typing from the floor right now...I'm that in love.

French design on the Texas Coast. Yes, it does exist!

-Beach Bungalow 8  She had me at beach.  And I ain't gonna lie..I have a secret blog crush. Love love love her posts. Love her house. Oh. And she's gorgeous to boot. And says cool things like Peace out. Don't say I didn't warn you. Sweet giveaway going on now over there too. Shoot. If you enter. And you. And you. That lessens my chances of winning doesn't it? sigh..

-My Sweet Savannah Melanie drives me semi nuts. Only because she puts Martha Stewart to shame while looking totally haute, sporting a cowgirl hat and sundress. I kid. Only about the driving me semi nuts.  This mama not only renovated her lake side home herself (oh yea...she uses power tools too. In her sundress.), she's single handedly redecorated every single room in her house (top to bottom people) on a yearly basis. If I think my dog drools, it's nothing compared to what goes on once I open up her blog. Oh, and she's doing a reveal of her daughters room reno that's sure to be better than anything I could ever come up with just darling!!! 

-finally..one of my besties....and the reason for this post......and is there a prerequisite that all decorators be gorgeous? Meet Carol of Chic Home Antiques  I can personally vouch for her talent and love of all things decorating. Carol rescues old furniture like some people rescue animals, gives them love and gently nurtures them back to their beautiful selves. 

     The idea of living well has always been important to me and a home should be a reflection of your lifestyle. I have found that beautiful pieces are attainable and don't have to cost a fortune you just need the right eye and the patience for discovery. Therefore, nothing gives me more joy than finding a perfect unique piece that will be loved and adored as it once was long ago.

While fashion is my love, home is where my heart is and as someone stated so eloquently once upon a time..there's no place like home..
