Hello Mamas,

I was recently reading the January Issue of Vogue while having my grays covered touching up my God given color.  Anna Wintour Editor in Chief wrote:

"I've never met a single resolution I liked. Nevertheless, in the season's spirit of thinking about the future, I thought I'd offer up ten things I'm looking forward to in 2011." "Believe me it is a lot more fun than plotting out everything you need to change......"

Point so flawlessly made we Mamas thought we would give it a try only what the hell! we'll making it 11 for 2011....

9. Summer!!....... Kate's Maxi Dresses, Power walking by the ocean, the Sun, the beach! 

10. Back to school .... I know! Giggle Giggle.. but by the time it comes we are ready for it! 

11. Ending the year celebrating Holidays with our families!

 

Kate here, I love it Kim! Forward thinking, well said.  Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could wash aside all our troubles like we wash out those grays? I mean..if you wash out your grays.   Life is short, stop dwelling on the past, it's there for a reason, because it has passed.  Enjoy each and every day, and make the most of it, no matter what your bank account, medical charts, or chaotic life looks like. Chin up, there is always a silver lining, or better yet, red sole, to be found in every situation.  So put on a pretty dress, a smile, and surround yourself with good people.  What more do you really need?

 

Our Motto for you this new year is simple.....

Beautiful Soul take control.... Life is short, make it HAUTE!!!!!

New Years Snow Queen

Holiday joy continues for this mama! Bowling, Childrens museum, movie nights, trips to my hometown.  I'd just posted ice skating photos on Facebook when I got a wall post reminding me of a certain little blog commitment.  "I wondered where you'd gone"-Kimberly.  Oopsie. sorry Kim!!xoxohehe

Thanks for holding down the fort Kim, but even she knows, I can't help it.  I am a sucker for good holiday fun, and New Years Eve is no different.  Last year was the first year my girls were allowed to stay up and watch the ball drop in Times Square.  My neighbors joined us and we had a fabulous, yet low key time.  This year, I'll be shipping the girls off to the grandparents and heading out to a casual soiree myself, hence a little more formality is called for.  Just what the stylist ordered. 

I am in love with these Heritage fit satin trim pants from Talbots on major clearance right now.  And given the fact that I have eaten nearly every carb that's crossed my path, the wool/poly/lycra blend will hopefully help to hide that little glitch.

And Sam Edelman Simone ankle boots to protect those little footsies from all this snow! 

 

This is New Years eve after all mamas, so pile on every piece of gold, glass and glittery jewelry you own.  Think big, think Times Square big.  

 

The same holds true for hair and makeup.  The higher the hair, the closer to God.  And he didn't create false eyelashes for trannies and Mac makeup artists only mamas.  Branch out.  Try something new.  A new eyeshadow color, or even a sparkly hair accessory.  You always want to look good when meeting someone new for the first time, why should meeting a New Year be any different? 

 

 

 

This New Years Eve I toast to Friendship!

With the New Year quickly approaching I began to reflect on everything that has transpired this year.  Boy what a year it has been. This past January I began a new chapter in my life. I moved into a new home, began a few new business ventures and learned to adjust to life as a single mom of four.  

 I was recently at a dinner party for my good friend who was celebrating 10 years breast cancer free! The girls and I got to talking about friendships. One of the women there who has also been through a divorce said that the blessing that comes from experiences that are extremely hard on us, is that you find your chemo friends. She explained that they are your friends that are there for you to hold you up, push you from behind and believe in you even when you don't. They give you the strength to move an inch forward, they hold your hair back for you when you are ill, listen to your anger, allow you your tears, councel you, they have such a strong presence in your life because they know you need them. Life never gets too busy for them to make time to check in on you.  My friend and I looked at each other and said that is so true! She gained her Chemo friends through Cancer and I through Divorce. 

Someone said to me not to long ago that I have surrounded myself by people who only agree with me. That person doesn't understand that through such a difficult time in my life, I have found my chemo friends.  

So this New Year's Eve I raise my toast glass to my beautiful Chemo friends!! Thank You for all your love, support and your presence in my life!

That's right, today while we all remain housebound and ill (bah humbug) we at least have our Norad Santa  tracker to keep us entertained. This amazing technology uses Google Earth to show Santa flying into Sydney!  Watch him pass through Paris! Right now, as of 7:51 EST, Santa is in Khabarovsk, Russia.  

I hope those kids are asleep and not reading this. 

You can even track him on your smart phone while you're out finishing up those last minutes errands (like buying cookies and milk, Love Santa).

On the 23rd day of the holiday Mr. UPS gave to me...William Rast for Target

I had exactly four minutes to blow through Target this morning, grabbing applesauce, Vitamin waters, Emergen-C's and other sick-ward ammenities when like a speeding railroad I came screeching to a halt...

no, not Justin Timberlake.  I'd be in some sort of coronary attack recovery right now.

William Rast for Target! Hand to God, by far my favorite designer for Target line yet.  It was the skinny jeans that caught my eye to begin with.  It's always the skinnies.

I'm a sucker for a super cute skinny, especially paired with a sassy top, and lo and behold..

Dear Santa, if I can't have Mr. JT himself, can I at least have the entire William Rast for Target line? Two days left..I'll be super nice. xo Kate

 

Santas little sick ward

Oh the joys of motherhood.  Two days before Christmas, and my oldest has the stomache bug, my youngest has pnemonia and hub is currently undergoing knee surgery.  It's the hap-happiest season of all..... 

People always make fun of me for having my shopping and wrapping done the weekend after Thanksgiving, but as the mother of three asthmatics, it's a crapshoot as to the health and well being of our holidays.  Should the need arise for last minute gifts and I am housebound, I turn to the magic of the internet, and handiness of American Express. 

~Heifer International online donations and e-cards:  A lovely contribution to an organization that provides families with hope and an end to hunger.

~MYO Cd's  (make your own CD's): Spread the holiday cheer by burning your favorite Christmas tunes to a CD.  You can easily download them from iTunes and/or Amazon and upload to a CD.  Create a cute CD sleeve from your childs artwork, and voila! Santa's little rockstar! 

~Memberships: For the families in your life think museums, zoos, sports parks, etc.  Our Christmas Eve Day tradition (until this year apparently) has always been to hit the Boston Children's Museum.  We arrive super early, and the children have the place to themselves.  I don't think my kids know they can go any other day of the year.  Most memberships like this can be purchased, and printed up online.  

 

~Tickets! Who doesn't love attending an event or show? Last year Santa brought my girls tickets to Finding Nemo on Ice which they adored.  Santa did not have the tickets ready Christmas eve, so he wrote a note letting us know when and where we would be attending.  Kudos Santa! Ticketmaster has lots of future shows to peruse for all ages, or check your local venues.  

*Dear Santa, Nemo-schmemo.  It's all Kenny this year.  

~And finally, consider a charitable contribution to your local childrens hospital.  We have spent far too much time in the past years at our Childrens Hospital in Boston, but not as much time as we could have due to the  wonderful care received.  I am thankful that we have such a top notch hospital in the area, and even more thankful when we leave;) 

Things may not be perfect at our house, but I know things could be a lot worse, and regardless it still is the hap-happiest season of allllllll.......and the holiday music, much to the annoyance of the ill and infirmed, will continue to play 24/7 until this nurse says so.
