Yesterday we met Sara (welcome back Sara!), and got a glimpse into her closet of basics. Today she fills us in how we can work in the seasons trends with just a few key pieces, and what she'll invest in, and what she'll save on.
So now for the fun part- updating my basics, my go to's with the latest. Things that pass through my mind while shopping online after the kids go to bed- What are the main trends of the season? Do they work for me? As an example, let's think back to the harem pant trend a few seasons ago- boy am I glad I never embraced that! Also thinking about how many uses I will get out of something- spending a bit more on heavy rotators and less on items I know will only get a few uses. Here are my faves...
1. Faux fur vest- there is a reason this is first. I absolutely love this trend and particularly love this one from Aqua. To those who know me, don't be shocked to see this item over everything! From long sleeve shirts and skinny jeans, to dresses and even hanging around the house with sweats (yes sweats!!!). This is definitely a heavy rotator...
2. Skinny cords- love these from J Brand! find them so comfy with the mid rise- don't feel like the junk is hanging out of the trunk while I sit down on the floor with the kids if you know what I mean... Great with a basic tank and cardigan, also can be jazzed up with my black blazer, flats, basic tank and gold hoops!
3. Blanket sweater- Feel like I am embracing my youth with this oversized sweater! Remember the oversized sweaters we used to buy from the cart in the middle of the mall? yes? no? Well I am loving this style from Free People with a basic tank and can wear it with leggings, skinny jeans or even my skinny cords...
Kate-Do I?! hello Methuen Mall! There is no need for a sweat shirt when this sweater exists, I've even replaced the bathrobe with a long cardi! Warm and chic!
4. Silky Blouse- Since I know this won't be a weekly go to or even become a basic (such as the cords) I feel like I need to cut back here- so instead of the silk blouse, I am going for this silky looking blouse from Tucker for Target. The original line is known for this signature style but made with an expensive silk material. At Target you get the same great style, the fabric is not silk but still looks great! Perfect with the faux fur vest, skinny jeans and my Frye boots for a casual night out...
5. Wedge Oxford- Love this trend and if I had still been working I would have splurged for the to die for version by Cynthia Vincent, but since my days of wearing heels are few and far between, I knew they wouldn't get a ton of use... After scouring on the internet to find a cheaper alternative, I found these adorable ones from Sam Edelman... can't wait to wear them with skinny jeans and mix it up with my blanket sweater, faux fur vest and Tucker blouse...
Kate-Diggin' the gum heel! I think this is an appropriate day heel although I am probably in the minority. Don't be afraid to don a heel in daylight!
Click, Click, Click... orders placed! can't wait to get my packages!!!
Wow, thanks for sharing all your super haute secrets Sara, and by all means..stop by again!
xo Kate, Kimberly and Christina
I love the Wedge Oxford and am sitting here thinking about grabbing myself a pair but I'm afraid they would only end up sitting in my closet as I don't wear heels much either. Is there any other way to wear them besides with skinny pants?

Hi Autum Its Kimberly!! I read your comment when I was picking up my 4 yr old from school and wanted to reply but couldn't! I need an Iphone!! haha!! I had on a pair of wedge booties almost like the ones Sara pictured above and I had them on with my Flare Cut Jeans!! They can go with anything and are soooo comfy! I wore them all day and I was at a pumpkin palooza party earlier for my 7 yr old!! They are a great mom shoe if you want a little heel!! :^)
