Hello Everyone!
Kimberly here and I would like to dedicate the month of July to the topic of personal style. I was reading through Vogue magazine the other day and I read their review of a book titled I Love Your Style, how to Define and Refine your personal style by Amanda Brooks. A few hours later I had that book in my hands! and that night when the kids were sleeping I read it cover to cover! Amanda Brooks is a fashion consultant who has written about stye for the New York Times Magazine, Vogue and Men's Vogue, where she wrote the popular online column " In her Eyes" The former muse and creative director of Tuleh, she has appeared as a fashion expert on Today, the Early Show and National Public Radio. A very impressive resume! She writes that finding your personal style is about discovering yourself! I couldn't agree more. Her greatest belief about clothes is that style does not come to you unless you pay attention to it! Perfectly said!
Amanda Brooks was born in the 70's which meant that I instantly connected to her as we are about the same age. When I read about all the fashion misses she had growing up, following along to the trends of the 80's I was gasping and laughing along with her. We both shopped at Contempo Casuals, wore penny loafers, barn jackets. We were preppy then punk and now it seems like we are beginning to finally figure out what works and what style best represents who we are. Twenty years later of trial and error and paying attention.
Amanda's book outlines the different styles out there so it is easy to pinpoint what category you feel the most comfortable wearing. Classic, Bohemian, Minimal, High Fashion, Street, Eclectic, Basics, Cheap Chic, Designer and Vintage. For me I am a mix between Cheap Chic and Classic and like Amanda Brooks wrote... " when I experiment with trends I always mix them with a classic piece so I don't look like I am wearing a costume!" I am still waiting for the day when it is discovered that I am Ralph Lauren's long lost daughter!!! Sorry Mom and Dad! LOL!!
So this month we are going to talk about how we discovered our personal style. Our fashion hits and misses throughout the years. We will tag photos and we would love you to join us on facebook and twitter were we can chat with one another about our favorite fashion memories and feel free to send us any questions you would like us to answer. Later in the month we will have a guest blogger Maryanne Kondracki as she has just finished buying holiday for her boutique! Can you believe that! She will talk about what she saw in New York and what we can expect for fall 2010! I read that we may see 40's inspired fashion!! Holla!!! Love that era!! So feminine so glamourous!! What a month this is going to be!!
XO Kimberly
