Hello Everyone it's Kimberly,
I decided to start off our week on health and fitness with food. My favorite topic EVAH!!!!!! Food is something I am passionate about. I learned this from growing up in my Italian grandmothers kitchen! Oh the smells and the meals that are served from there!! My mouth is watering now!! The only reason I can get through writing this is because I will be visiting her tomorrow!! YAY!!
What I am proud to have taken from watching her all these years is that I can say I cook with passion. I love to have my family around and I love to entertain. Like my grandmother it makes me happy to see everyone eating and enjoying themselves and we do thank goodness!! Like her apron says in this picture.. You don't like-a my cookin I break-a you face!! Hahahaha!!! Isn't she the cutest!
The downfall to this is now that I am getting older and want to be fit and healthy I need to pace myself! I am not one of those girls who will pick at her food! An old friend of mine said to me when we were having dinner "Since when did you start eating like a bird!" haha!! I hadn't seen this person in 14 years and they remembered!
I do enjoy a good meal. However, one thing that I have learned to control and almost eliminate is snacking on all the goodies that are in my home for my children. Getting in shape is a no brainer if you educate yourself with all the great information out there from the professionals. Tone it up is a great site for women to get workout tips, meals etc. We Haute Mamas love it!!
It all comes down to how serious you are about being healthy. It doesn't happen over night you change your bad habits slowly. It was really hard for me to cut portion sizes down but I eventually got there and that made a big difference for me. Also eating healthy means planning ahead and that is something I am going to tackle this summer. I've decided to listen to Kate and use PeaPod online grocery shopping and delivery. She said the food is great quality and now I can plan my meals out in the comfort of my own home. As well as pull ingredients for great meals out of magazines and not miss anything. Holla!!!!!
July's issue of Self Magazine had a few pages listing their Healthy Food Awards. It had some great suggestions on snacks, breakfast ideas, dinners. I pulled several off the pages and made myself a list. So you see whenever I can I try to eat smart so that when it is time for Grandma's cooking or when I am out being social I can live it up with a little less guilt!!!
"One of the very nicest things about life is the way we must regularly stop whatever it is we are doing and devote our attention to eating."
